DOLLUNGMUKH, May 8: Much to the delight of the Subansiri Lower power project affected people, Executive Director (Subansiri Basin Projects) B R Saraf today assured implementation of the MoU in letter and spirit.

The assurance came after 4-hour marathon discussion the representatives of Nyishi Elite Society and ANSU headed by Bengia Tolum and Niglar Veo respectively had with Saraf and other project officers on the pending demands of the project affected people at the conference hall of Subansiri Lower HE project today.

NES President Bengia Tolum highlighted the demands of the people of Dollungmukh which the Executive Director explained the position and clarified various issues.

The NES, ANSU and Subansiri Lower Power Project Implementation Committee (SULPIC) had also detailed discussions on the pending demands of local area which were not fulfilled by the authority despite being clearly given in the Memorandum of Understanding with the State govt.

The ED assured to make functional the office of Executive Director (SBPs) within 2 months time starting from today at the Right Bank Office Complex which is located in Arunachal side. He also assured to make functional the already constructed Hospital that too within next two months.

The fruitful meeting also procured assurance from the ED on opening of VKV school in the Right Bank and make all out efforts to make it functional from the next academic session 2011-12.

“The construction of road from the Right Bank to NH-52 which is part of the Project Estimate shall be taken up for execution in phased manner for final completion by December 2011”, Saraf added.

The ED also assured that the work of the village road from Dollungmukh Bridge to Paro (11 kms approx) and Rajali village to Paro (5 kms approx) shall be taken under Corporate Social Responsibility).

In addition, NES president has expressd desire that in the proposed recruitment 40 unemployed youths should be from the Project Affected Families of Right Bank of Subansiri River.

Govt concerned about situation in Tirap:HM

ITANAGAR, May 8: Home Minister Tako Dabi today said that the state government is concerned about developments in certain areas in Tirap district where certain ultra groups are active by resorting to abduction, extortion and also killing of innocent citizens. He denounced the recent kidnapping of seven youths of the district by NSCN(K) group on May 4 who were subsequently rescued by Assam Rifles on the following day from the group’s captivity.

Speaking to media persons today in his official residence, Dabi congratulated the Assam Rifle’s prompt rescue operation, adding the government highly appreciates co-operation of Assam Rifles in the incident.

In reply to questions from the journalists about possibilities of adopting iron-hand tactics in solving the problem of underground elements in the state, Dabi said that only through dialogue and understanding the lingering issue can be resolved. According to him, the situation is slowly improving though many problems still remain to be resolved.

The Home Minister stated that for finding a lasting solution to the issue, the five states of Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh have to address the issue in a collective spirit by discussing and planning together. People of the region yearn for lasting peace for development, and therefore, finding a permanent solution is very important, he also said.

He appreciated the endevour of Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for their peace initiative in NE in general and Assam, in particular. He said the arrest of Ranjan Daimari, the NDFB chief recently is a major breakthrough in this direction and expressed hope that a peace process by means of dialogue across table would follow by involving leaders of ULFA and other underground factions for peace and progress in the entire region. HM’s writes letter to Chidambaram

ITANAGAR, May 8: State home minister Tako Dabi has written an interesting letter to union home minister P. Chidambaram seeking formation of new battalion of Para-military specially comprised of eunuchs. Dabi believes that eunuchs can immensely contribute to national service as they are selfless community with not much of family bonding.

In his letter Dabi mentioned that eunuchs do not belong to any particular caste, creed or religion and are often confide within their community living apart from family. Their selfless way of living should be tapped by government and this can be best done creating a separate regiment within the Indian armed forces.

DMP workers union demand central Govt wages

ITANAGAR, May 8: Contract Employees and Worker Union of Dibang Multipurpose Project, NHPC, Ltd, Roing in a letter to Assistant Labour Commissioner, government of India appealed for payment of wages of workers of DMP(NHPC) on the basis rates of notification issued by Ministry of Labour and Employment Government of India. If the salaries of the workers of DMP are made on the basis of casual labour of government of Arunachal Pradesh, the concerned authority should provide full facilities as per the casual workers of the government of Arunachal Pradesh, or else the contract system of the employees should be removed, release said.

Association for retention of carriage contractor

ITANAGAR, May 8: Lower Dibang Valley District Fair Price Shops Owners Association urged the Deputy Commissioner and higher authorities to comply with the appointment of M/S Sirang Women Handloom Co-op Society Ltd, Dambuk as Public Distribution System Carriage Contractor cum whole sale nominee for 2010-11, Lower Dibang Valley District.

The govt had appointed Sirang Women Handloom Cooperative Society, Dambuk as the Wholesale Nominee-cum-Carriage Contractor for the district for the year 2010-11 vide Govt Order No.SCS-95/2005 VoL-I Dtd April 12.

The Association stated that the whole sale nominee performed its best effort despite communication hurdle while adding that the Society has been performing satisfactorily.

Meanwhile, the local MLA Laeta Umbrey had served three days ultimatum to the govt. to alter decision of awarding PDS Whole Sale Nominee-cum-Carriage Contractor of Lower Dibang Valley District to Dambuk based Sirang Women Handloom Cooperative Society. In his letter address to the Deputy Commissioner on May 3, he alleged that the said society failed to deliver the PDS items to the citizens of the district for the last two consecutive years and has quoted the highest rate in the tender bidding also.

2 students die in road mishap

ITANAGAR, May 8: Two Arunachalee students died in a tragic road accident under Chotia police station, Sonitpur district in Assam on May 7 last. This was informed by the All East Kameng Students Union (AEKSU) president Tukfi Riang in a release today.

After visiting the spot, union president further iclaimed that the accident occurred when a truck hit the Pulsar bike they were riding at around 10 am yesterday. A class XII student of Seppa Govt Hr Sec School Tani Lamgu died on the spot and another student Sunday Ngabham of same class succumbed to his injuries at Biswanath Charali Civil Hospital, the release said.

The union deeply condoled the death of the students and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls. Further it demanded exemplary punishment to truck driver.

The Union also claimed that on the same day, several passengers of a Tata Sumo were seriously injured when the vehicle met with an accident at Borgaon on its way from Seppa to Itanagar at around 3 pm. The union president said the injured were initially admitted at Borgaon Catholic Mission Hospital, later they were evacuated to R K Mission Hospital, Itanagar for further treatment, the release added. The union demanded the stringent punishment to the Sumo driver.

Literary competition

ITANAGAR, May 8: Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) has decided to organize short story and poem writing competitions in English among the university, college and school students on the occasion of its annual conference likely to be held in the last part of June.

Interested students are asked to submit two copies of their creative literary contributions duly forwarded by head of institutions to Editor Sokhep Kri, state Gezette, Arunachal Govt within June 20 next. Short stories should not be less than 400 words and poem should have minimum 10 lines. They may also submit their articles to Debotang Yupang, Asst. Research officer, Directorate of Research, Heritage building, Itanagar.

APLS sitting: Meanwhile, APLS is holding its 12th literary sitting at the JN State Museum here tomorrow, informed Tokong Pertin, Director of Trade & Commerce.

Classical dance workshop begins

ITANAGAR, May 8: A 10 days Classical Kathak Dance workshop began today at Panchayat Hall, Doimukh. The workshop was inaugurated by ASM Yab Lopuf in presence of senior and junior artistes of Doimukh. The organizer of the workshop is Sanskar Bharati Arunachal Pradesh.

Learning of Classical Dance will not only help the students to develop their personality and express their hidden talent but also give them internal peace and power to live a successful and happy life, said Lopuf, the chief guest of the function. He asked all the parents and students to take the advantage of the workshop.

Danseur Proloi Dutta will conduct the workshop where in around 50 children of different age group are participating.

No taker of professionalism in Arunachal!

ITANAGAR, May 8: In Arunachal professionalism is yet to find a space in our society because of the reasons best known to us. Though education has brought tremendous changes in socio-economic structure of state, unfortunately people do not show much respect to professionals from various fields. Often decision taken professionally at work place lands you in trouble and within next hour these troubles will knock your door.

At the receiving end will be you and your innocent family member, who have to bear all mayhem along with you.

A friend of mine who is lawyer by profession tells me that he is contemplating to give up his profession .He gave me an interesting argument for it. “Being advocate it is my duty to take up legal cases and earn living out of it. But in our state if I happen to take up a case, opponent party could often threaten us with dire consequences if we pursue the case. They think just because am fighting his case I am also party to his every act,” told the lawyer friend.

He went on to add, “If I take up a case it does not mean that I am supporter of my client. I only perform my professional work. People here are not able to distinguish between professionalism and personal relation.” The toughest part is when decision taken by you professionally at office disturbs sanity of your family life.

“Two years ago, a patient died under my supervision. When he was brought to hospital, already it was late but still we tried our best. It was bad luck that he died and I had to pay heavy price for it,” told one doctor. He told that incident made life miserable for him and his family. “Deceased relative’s threatened to kill me and mentally tortured my family. Fear still lingers in the mind of wife and children. I hope people understand that every people have personal and professional life,” rued doctor.

Another aspect is that if you are true to your profession people do not like it too. “A water tank was constructed under my direction and at the time came of final checking, I found couple of loopholes. I reported the matter to my seniors and after that I got so much of threatening calls. I thought I was doing my duty but they took it on personal term,” lamented one engineer.

AAPSU forms committees to look into ‘discrepencies’ in govt. depts

ATKSSU welcome committee on Chakma refugee imbroglio

ITANAGAR, May 8: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union ( AAPSU) in its central executive meeting today formed various committees with Kuku Ringu convener as Chairman to look into discrepancies happening in Government departments. The committees have been necessitated because of ‘various illegal appointment still taking place and lack of transparency in disbursing Government funds by officials without following the laid down rules & norms’, said union president Takam Tatung in an e-mail release.

Meantime, the union has decided to call on the state government soon to know about the fulfillment of its Fifteen (15) point charter of demand placed before the government earlier.

Hawa Bagang information & publicity secretary has been appointed souvenir committee chairman for bringing out a union souvenir and L. K Pao Secretary Education entrusted with the responsibility to study the functioning of private schools in the state.

Meanwhile, the All Tai Khampti Singpho Students Union (ATKSSU) has welcomed the formation of a high power committee by the AAPSU to look into Chakma- Hajong refugee imbroglio.

The Union has meanwhile aired its discomfort on the non-fulfillment of its demand placed earlier before the administration in support of which the Union had observed a Miao subdivision bandh call on Tuesday last. “The mute response on part of the administration is disgusting and will compel us to adopt a more vigorous democratic movement in want of justice, it is appalling to note that Refugees who were given temporary settlement are showing complete disregard to the law of the land and are engaged in spurt of land grabbing that includes land belonging to local people who are in possession of land possession certificate while the administration remain indifferent towards the whole situation,” complains Chow Kunseng Namchoom, General Secretary of ATKSSU.

Meanwhile the Singpho Development Council has also welcomed the AAPSU initiative in constituting a committee to look into the M-Pen issue. In a communiqué, Advocate Jawra Maio, Advisor to SDC on behalf of the Council assured to extend all possible help to the apex student organization from their end.

It’s to be noted that AAPSU has, in its last central executive meeting, formed a committee headed by Union Spokesperson Tobom Dai and Vice-President Nabam Tamar as Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed chairman Dai has rued that the Union is often being victimized in the name of human rights violation. He said that most of the time it was other way round while defending their due rights.

Dai further says that unlike the Chakma and other refugees, the Union do not have a strong lobby to highlight their side of the issue.

He opined that with the changing time the present AAPSU leadership will put its best effort to take the issue to highest level with a coordinated effort from the lowest level. At the same time, he called upon the Changlang District administration to immediately pay heed to ATKSSU demand to ensure conductive atmosphere for peace to prevail. The Committee is scheduled to organize series of meeting in the refugee infected area to drum up public opinion.

Association appeals

ITANAGAR, May 8: The Private School Association of Ziro, Lower Subansiri district has appealed the higher authorities to exempt Ziro area from the general rules laid down for schools in warm areas.

Reminding its earlier memorandum submitted to education commissioner and DDSE, the Association said all the private school in Ziro are following the academic session of CBSE but the peculiar geographical and climate condition of Ziro plateau is totally unfavorable for running schools during the extreme winter months from December and January especially for junior classes. School children face various problems during winter due to cold weather and shorter days, it said.

The Association said declaration of summer vacation will adversely affect the academic career of children in their area. It is quite difficult to complete the syllabus within the less number of working days after vacation period of three and half months (during April-May and December - January), the Association further said and appealed the authorities to consider the matter sympathetically and exempt their areas from general rules.

Truck union demand action

ITANAGAR, May 8: All Papum Pare, Lower and Upper Subansiri, Kurung Kumey District Truck Union in a letter to Deputy Commissioner Upper Subansiri District said that a Truck driver on his way to Daporijo with LPG loaded truck was beaten up without any reason at Muri village on May 1 last. An FIR has also been lodged at Police station, Daporijo but no arrest has been made till date, the union said.

The union appealed the DC to direct the concerned law enforcing authority for immediate arrest of culprit and give appropriate action as per the law.

It further threatens to stop movement of LPG, Petroleum truck toward Daporijo till the arrest of the culprit and added that such incident frequently happened in between Boa-Simla to Daporijo road and create inconvenient for the truck driver to reach its destination timely and peacefully.

Death mourned

ITANAGAR, May 8: Abb Tebw and Atto Lappa Welfare Association have mourned the death of late Taba Tattang, who passed away on 8th May at his Naharlagun residence. Originally hailing from Rach village of Sagalee area, late Tattang is survived by his wife, five sons and six daughters.

Meanwhile All Sagalee Employees Forum too has condoled the death of late Taba Tattang. Forum prayed for the eternal peace of departed soul.
